Calming Jello Playdough Recipe

March 31, 2020

Simple and easy homemade Playdough recipe that uses Jello to create these fun vibrate colors!

I have been making homemade playdough since Winn was tiny, and it's one of my kid favorite activities. Since now more than ever we are looking for ways to teach the kids new skills and spend quality time together, I thought why not get them to help me make it.

I think they enjoy cooking it more than playing with it! Check out the super simple recipe below and if you like it you can use my secret ingredient from Saje Wellness to help encourage calm playtime.
Jello Playdough Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Cup warm water
  • 2 Tbsp Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Cream of Tartar
  • 2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Package of Jello powder ( choose whatever color you like)
  • Optional - Add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil. We love the Aromafairy one from Saje Wellness. Its formulated for kids and has a lovely smell.
Mix all ingredients together in a large saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture forms into a soft ball of dough. This should only take a few minutes. Drop the hot dough onto a floured surface and allow to cool down. We typically make a few batches at a time so we have a variety of colors to play with.

Once the dough has cooled enough to handle. Knead it adding more flour to help get it to the right consistency. This will also help cool it down so that the kids can play with it right away. Store in a air tight container in your fridge and it will last for months. If it gets a bit dried out, I add a little warm water and a few more drops of essential oil and knead it together.

Enjoy!
